Effective marketing in Second Life, particularly for an sex work business, needs a strategic and comprehensive approach. We can’t just throw out a group notice and hope for the best.
This guide outlines all of the essential steps to make sure that we get maximum visibility and engagement for events and promotions.
1. Group Notices
Group notices are a great tool to reach barflies directly but they only have a limited effect. Follow these steps to create effective group notices:
- Attention-Grabbing Titles: The title should be compelling and concise to capture immediate attention.
- Include All Relevant Details: Provide all information on the event or promotion, including date, time, location, and any special features. If you need to, and only when you need to, add the information to a notecard. Always TRY and fit everything into the actual notice as most people won’t open the notecard.
- Schedule Notices: We have use of the X-Sisters Curator bot. Jess can add you to the access list if you require it. Send notices at peak times when members are most active. The ideal times, given group population are between 1am and 4am SLT and then again at around Also send a reminder as the event approaches.
- Follow Up: Post-event follow-ups can keep the momentum going and encourage attendance at future events. This is something we lack outside of a look back blog post, we should be posting a notice AFTER the event to hype how good it was.
2. Posters in Key Areas
Visibility is so important and we have multiple locations that we can use for free. Every event should have a poster made, no matter how big or small. Make and place new posters in strategic locations:
- Main Bar Area
- Street Whores Landing Area (for now at least)
- Hooker Hotel Hub
- X-Sisters Apartment Landing Zone
- Motel Rooms
Style guide for effective posters:
- Eye-Catching: Use bold colours, clear text, high gloss low noise, and attractive images.
- Clear Messaging: Add the important details like the event name, date, time, and if you can think of one – a call-to-action.
- Consistent Branding: Make sure the design aligns with the brand identity. They should all be consistent and catchy.
3. X-Sisters Website Updates
The website is a great marketing tool that we don’t make enough use of. Keep it updated regularly:
- New Blog Posts: If possible, create engaging blog posts about upcoming events. This helps with SEO and provides content for social media sharing.
- Event Listings: At the very least, ensure that upcoming events are listed clearly on the website.
- Visual Appeal: Use high-quality images and ensure the site is easy to navigate.
- SEO Optimization: Use relevant keywords to help your site rank higher in search engines.
